Preparing Clay Soil for Flourishing Dahlias at Dearest Dahlia

Updated: Mar 5

At Dearest Dahlia, we find ourselves blessed with abundant rainfall and rich, heavy clay soil, a combination that, while nurturing, presents certain challenges for our beloved dahlias. These discerning blooms favour rich, well-drained earth, and our task is to transform our garden's foundation to meet their lofty expectations.

To this end, we turn to nature's own remedies. Amending our clay soil with generous offerings of aged manure and compost serves a dual purpose: it lightens the soil's dense texture and enhances its drainage capabilities. This thoughtful addition creates a hospitable environment for our dahlia tubers, ensuring they receive the nourishment and conditions they so dearly require.

By embracing these practices, we not only honour the unique characteristics of our soil but also pave the way for a garden filled with the vibrant and flourishing dahlias we so cherish.

Yours most sincerely,

Dearest Dahlia
